If you could design a school, what would it be like?

School would not be all day. I think 10 - 3 is long enough! School would not be every week. Three weeks of school and a one week break, but keep the summers! Summers are very important! Children would focus on working in groups and be given more opportunities to determine what they would like to learn. And there would not be any grades. It is incredible really to think that self worth is determined by a letter of the alphabet. When the necessary skills are acquired the child moves into the appropriate learning group. I teach at the university level and I have adopted a Cooperative Learning System that the Pacific Crest Institute has developed. My intention is to give the students an opportunity to have a voice, to learn how to negotiate and communicate. I know that speaking for myself is one of the skills I have worked very hard to acquire and that this ability follows me into every moment. My transcripts are in boxes in some university storage room. Not very helpful when it comes time to negotiate peace between the people I teach, work with or work for. http://www.pcrest.com/ http://www.pcrest.com/PC/PE/index.html
